Silly Fun

I don’t know about you, but I find occasion dressing can get far too serious sometimes; should my lipstick match the dress? Can I get away with a wedge that size when I’m a) dancing a Ceilidh b) tramping through a field or c) walking on wonky tent terrain? Will I be cold?

Enough already. Sometimes you need a good old palette cleanser to take the edge off. In this case, a pair of fluffy marabou earrings. I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them on ASOS. What’s not to adore? They’re pale pink, silky and silly. When you put them on, your face looks softer, somehow.

They’re a bit sexy, too, like hanging Agent Provocateur slippers from your lobes, but much, much lighter. Admittedly, I was all geared up to wear them for my friend Ruth’s wedding last weekend, but I chickened out last minute. But with all the barbecues, birthdays, engagement parties and (more!) weddings on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time before I crack out what can only be described as the silliest accessory of the summer. You, reader, will be the first to see them in action.

These earrings are but £8 from River Island

Sale Shopping Reluctance

I haven’t really hit the high street sales in a big way this year. There are a few good reasons for this:

1. The weather is hideous
2. The hideous weather will make my fringe gross
3. I would have to leave my new electric blanket
4. Shopping is tiring
5. I’m too fat from Christmas and am very afraid nothing will fit me

All good points, I think you’ll agree. HOWEVER: I am a bargain lover and would hate the high street to suffer because of my reluctance. With this in mind, I have scoured the internet for the best bargains of the moment. In my pyjamas, natch.

Because the sparkle must continue.

Er. are these gym-appropriate? Who cares, they’ll make me look cool.

Zara Leopard Blazer now £30 (was £59)

I sucked it up and actually ventured into Zara Marble Arch to unearth this beauty. Be warned: Zara’s sizing is beyond mental and you will need a size XXL if you are a UK 12 like me.

Staying (as ever) on the leopard theme, I discovered this…so wrong it’s right.

River Island and Pacha 2013

Last week I was transported from dreary, wet Oxford Street into a hot throbbing Ibiza clubland. The River Island High Summer 13 press day was a riot of bright colour, pastels, a glittery floor and general dance-inspired wonderfulness. The brand has collaborated with Pacha once more to produce three more collections of premium ‘beach to bar’ wear for spring/summer.

We sipped tropical cocktails, licked ice-creams and listened to some fab music (the DJ played No Diggity!) as we checked out the new pieces.

I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the glittery kaftans, bright neon accessories and dyed denim. A few of the men’s pieces caught my eye too, especially the bold T-shirts and cool rucksacks (perfect for hand luggage).

The range will be available in River Island stores and online in April.
